OUS was created to serve the Somali population through distance and open education, offering higher education opportunities to all segments of society to widen access to and promote a flexible, innovative and cost-effective system of education
In 30 June 2018 was established the first private Open University in Somalia (OUS) to meet the demand for higher education that had arisen in the country. The Open University of Somalia aims to provide educational opportunities to a larger segment those who are unable to take up formal education and are still desirous to upgrade their educational qualifications and acquire knowledge in various fields of learning through the print medium (correspondence course), contact programs, study centers, and mass media. At present, there are 5 faculties operational under Open University of Somalia which offer Under Graduate, Post Graduate, Diploma, PG Diploma, and Certificate programs.
