About Open University of Somalia

In 30 June 2018 was established the first private Open University in Somalia (OUS) to meet the demand for higher education that had arisen in the country. The Open University of Somalia aims to provide educational opportunities to a larger segment those who are unable to take up formal education and are still desirous to upgrade their educational qualifications and acquire knowledge in various fields of learning through the print medium (correspondence course), contact programs, study centers, and mass media. At present, there are 5 faculties operational under Open University of Somalia which offer Under Graduate, Post Graduate, Diploma, PG Diploma, and Certificate programs.

Open University of Somalia (OUS) was created to serve the Somalipopulation through distance and open education, offering higher education opportunities to all segments of society to widen access to and promote a flexible, innovative and cost-effective system of education. OUS has come a long way and holding to its commitment to quality university education, since the needs of our community are changing rapidly in line with new demographic, economic and technological trends, and though OUS aims to anticipate and manage these changes by developing relevant practical professional programmes, for that OUS is dedicated to promoting a society with active learning by offering the most flexible and obtainable methods of education to students. OUS also serves to promote and maintain distance and open education standards in Somalia, to strengthen Somalia's human resources through education.

As part of all on going plans the OUS is engaged in, enhancing the quality of human resources development and international cooperation are the two major missions. OUS has striven to achieve our slogan of "Inspiring Tomorrow's Professionals" making quality and flexible further education opportunities available to working adults. though the qualifications and the world-class teaching learners are looking for Everyone can earn a qualification while working; learners may also wish to work part-time and study part-time; and others, including, school-leavers can study full-time. Students may select to learn through distance learning courses via the Internet, and face-to-face learning on campus, Students may access learning materials through their tablets, personal computers, or smart phones at all times, making it a far-reaching learning environment, completely free from the constraints of space and time.

OUS aims to expand the sources of income and funding support for the University by expressing and implementing targeted strategies to lobbying donation support for various initiatives, including major capital projects, student support services such as scholarships, internships and exchange opportunities, research, and other general learning and teaching needs.

The Open University of Somalia ( OUS ) conducts teaching and learning within eight faculties, two large-scale research institutes, and other institutes and centres Open University of Somalia offers its certificates, ordinary diplomas, degrees, postgraduate diplomas and PhDs through its five Faculties and two Institutes.
